Sup Yinzers!

My name is Jason Newman! I currently reside in Central Illinois, and I was born and raised in Upland, California. On April 24th, 2004, the Pittsburgh Steelers selected Ben Roethlisberger, quarterback from Miami of Ohio, with the 11th overall pick in the draft. In September of 2004, the Steelers’ starting QB, Tommy Maddox, went down with an elbow injury, thrusting the rookie into a starting position. Despite losing the game in which Tommy Maddox got hurt, the Steelers went on to win their next 13 regular season games and made it all the way to the AFC Championship Game, before being knocked out by the New England Patriots. However, the young Big Ben bounced back the following season and became the youngest QB in the history of the NFL to win the Super Bowl. That was all I needed to see. That young kid from Ohio made me a fan for life. 

I may not live in Pittsburgh (I will as soon as I can) or be from Pittsburgh, but I live, breathe, and bleed black and gold. Every time I visit the city of Pittsburgh, I fall deeper in love with it; so much so that one night I was sitting bored in my apartment at like midnight, and I was like: “You know what? I’m gonna go to Pittsburgh right now.” And, I got off my couch and drove eight hours in the middle of the night, on a whim, to go to a Steelers’ draft party at Stage AE on North Shore Drive. That day, we drafted CB Joey Porter Jr. It was a blast.

I started this blog as my own space to spew my knee-jerk reactions to all the happenings as it pertains to the Pittsburgh Steelers and the city of Pittsburgh. On November 26th, 2023, I made the decision to start seeing an addiction counselor, and I have been sober ever since. So, I may occasionally share some things associated with that journey, and spending even more time in Pittsburgh will be a significant factor in that journey. With that being said:

WARNING: I am in no way affiliated with the Pittsburgh Steelers or the NFL. Everything I share about the Pittsburgh Steelers is done from my perspective, and my perspective only, to inform and entertain. I will also be sharing my experiences in Pittsburgh, so I may give my opinions on the places I go and what I do while I’m in Pittsburgh. I am no food critic, or yelper, or anything of that nature. I only do so to help folks that may or may not have experienced those things. There will probably be curse words occasionally sprinkled in my various posts, so be mindful of that! Also, I am no addiction counselor. I’m still figuring this shit out myself. All I can do is share my experiences! Thanks!
