Le’Veon Bell is Eyeing an NFL Comeback (With Pittsburgh?)

According to Alex Kozora from Steelers Depot, Le’Veon Bell took to snapchat to announce that he is going to begin training for a potential return to the NFL.

As stated in his snapchat, Le’Veon Bell claims that, at 31, he understands his body better than he did at 21, and that he feels better than he has ever felt. Le’Veon hasn’t played a down of professional football since 2021, when he played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. So it remains to be seen if he will be in proper football shape in time to play when the 2024 season kicks off, which he acknowledges in his snapchat story, adding that he needs to be honest with himself about where he’s at physically.

Le’Veon Bell has played a decent amount of football since he left the Steelers in 2018, but what makes his potential return so newsworthy amongst yinzers, is the fact that he insinuated that he would only return to play for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Last year, when he spoke to Rob Maaddii on the AP Pro Football Podcast, he said: “Honestly, I really only want to play with the Steelers. That’s it.”

He seemed to double down on that sentiment in his snapchat story on Friday, insinuating that fans knew which team he wanted to play for, if he ultimately decides to play again.

I love Le’Veon Bell, man. I’ve missed the Killer Bee offense every single down we’ve played since we blew it all up, or better yet, since Le’Veon Bell and Antonio Brown blew it all up. While I think it would be a cool story for Le’Veon to come back, and while I’d support it with every bit of my heart, it’s largely unrealistic that it will happen. For starters, the Steelers aren’t going to be willing to give Le’Veon Bell much more than the vet minimum to come back. And no, I have not been told that by the team, or any sources; I’m deducing that through logic and the team’s history. Additionally, he wouldn’t get much playing time behind Jaylen Warren and Najee Harris, who proved to be a formidable tandem during the 2023 season.

Assuming Le’Veon is willing to accept those things, I still can’t imagine the Steelers reaching out to him barring an injury to Warren or Harris (knocks on wood; please god no). But, of course, I’m just speculating, because speculating is fun. I kinda hope I’m wrong, because that would be a lot of fun.
