On February 1st, 2009 the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Arizona Cardinals 27-23 to win Super Bowl XLIII, securing their league-leading (at the time) sixth Lombardi Trophy.

This is one of those days, for me, in which I’ll always remember where I was and what I was doing. At the time, I was living in Upland, California, which is about 300 miles from Glendale, Arizona, where the Arizona Cardinals call home. At this point, the Raiders were still in Oakland and, quite frankly, nobody liked the Chargers, so the Cardinals were an extremely popular team in that area. Needless to say, I got a lot of grief from Cardinals fans about this one.

I watched the game at my grandfathers house. At the time, I was already a huge fan of the Steelers, but this win really took my fandom to a whole ‘nother level. I can never bring myself to root for other teams in just about any circumstance, in large part, because of this Super Bowl win. Not to mention, this was, undoubtedly, one of the most exciting Super Bowls in NFL history, headlined by Ben Roethlisberger’s game winning touchdown pass to Santonio Holmes in the back corner of the end zone, and LaMarr Woodley’s strip sack to seal the deal.

What a great day in history it was.
