They Let Us In The Playoffs!!!

All you need is a ticket to the dance, and we’ve secured ours!

When I was young (like really young…like too young to truly understand football…like maybe 4 or 5 years old), I did genuinely enjoy watching it. A friend of mine that lived a couple houses down from me had a family that sat together and watched football every week, and I would often join them. At the time, the big star in the league was this supposedly legendary quarterback named Brett Favre who played for the Green Bay Packers. There was also some guy named Kordell Stewart who started at QB for the historic franchise known as the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers’ division rival Houston Oilers had just moved to Nashville and would change their name to the Tennessee Titans, headed at QB by this stud named Steve McNair. I didn’t much understand what was happening on the TV screen when I would watch these teams play, but I knew I really liked the Titans logo. So, I drew that shit, a lot. I recall a time I even drew it for my dad (before he decided he didn’t feel like being a dad anymore), and gave it to him as a ‘just because’ card, even though he didn’t care about football at all, let alone the Tennessee Titans.

Eventually, another stud QB named Ben Roethlisberger would lead the Steelers on a Super Bowl run right around the time I started to actually understand the game of football, so I chose to follow that team into the sunset, but that’s beside the point. The point is, young me was onto something. Young me knew that 28-year-old me was going to be begging the Tennessee Titans to beat the Jacksonville Jaguars on January 7th, 2024 so that the Steelers could sneak into the playoffs. Here we are, folks. We’ve come full circle.

Look at me, unpacking childhood trauma just to say: the Tennessee Titans have beaten the Jacksonville Jaguars 28-20, eliminating the Jags from playoff contention, and opening a spot for the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers will be playing the Bills, in Buffalo, in the wild card round on Sunday, January 14th at 1 pm eastern time.

There will be Steeler fans that aren’t happy about this. They’ll call it a waste. They’ll say we should’ve positioned ourselves better for the draft. To those folks, I say this: there’s a team in Cleveland, Ohio that will happily take you and your lame ass mindset and provide you some refuge. Outside of the Baltimore Ravens, the AFC looks like it’s there for the taking, and the Ravens haven’t exactly played well against us these last few years. We’re getting hot at the right time, and we have just as good a chance as anyone else.

It’s playoff time, baby!

Here. We. Go.
