The Move I’ve Been Waiting For: Steelers to Sign LB Patrick Queen
On Tuesday, former Baltimore Ravens LB Patrick Queen told ESPN’s Marcus Spears that he’s going to sign a three-year, $41 million contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Earlier today, I was sitting on my phone, and I broke the news to my Steelers group chat that the Ravens had signed Derrick Henry. Henry may be past his prime, but one cannot shortchange what he brings to an already-loaded Ravens team. My group chat kinda fell into a dark hole of negativity when that happened. So, I said to my guys “...we better hit on ILB this offseason! And some DL depth too hopefully. We’ll be alright.” That was at 12:05 CT.
Exactly 55 minutes later, at 12:55 CT, Adam Schefter dropped this BOMB. Hit on ILB?? We Barry Bonds’d that bitch 550 feet out of the stadium.
Inside linebacker is a position that has been tough for us to fill. This issue goes all the way back to week 13 in 2017 when Ryan Shazier’s football career ended in the saddest way possible when he sustained a spinal injury against the Cincinnati Bengals. Shazier was a star in the making, and filling his shoes proved to be a tall task. We traded up to the 10th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft and selected Devin Bush with that pick. He was supposed to be our guy, but he turned out to be a fuckin BUM. Since then, we’ve had a committee of guys at ILB, but have yet to find a long-term answer at that position, until today.
Patrick Queen plays the game of football like his hair is on fire. Obviously, we play the Ravens twice a year, so I stay in-the-know on their guys as well - so I have been familiar with Patrick Queen for a couple of years now. Still, I went back and watched some highlights, and oh my god…this guy is nuts. His football instincts are absolutely insane, and he’s arguably the most versatile LB in football. We’ve struggled to stop the run in recent years, but if we can keep this guy healthy, good luck running the ball on the Pittsburgh Steelers going forward. By the way, this dude is only 24 YEARS OLD. AN AHBSOLUTE STEEL (pun most certainly intended). And the fact that we got him from a division rival - it just feels great.
When we traded WR Diontae Johnson on the same day that we signed this guy, and the trade news takes a back seat, you know we got ourselves a star. As much as I’ll miss Diontae, today is a damn good day to be a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Omar Khan, you’re a fuckin beast. Keep workin.
Here. We. Fuckin. Go.
