The Curse of the Terrible Towel Claims Another Victim
Fan bases just won’t learn, will they?
Myron Cope’s Terrible Towel Curse claimed yet another victim Sunday, as the Buffalo Bills fell to the Kansas City Chiefs 27-24. Just last week, when the Steelers went down to Buffalo for Wild Card Weekend, a Bills fan was caught on camera disrespecting the towel, and the spirit of the late Myron Cope took notice and got his revenge.
The curse of the Towel has claimed a lot of victims over the years. I can recall two occasions where the Bengals fell victim to the curse during my fandom, once at the hands of TJ Houshmandzadeh, and the other at the hands of Jeremy Hill. Those are just the two that stood out to me, but there are plenty more instances of the curse laying waste to all those who disrespect the Towel. In fact, this season alone, the Towel has claimed three victims. The Jacksonville Jaguars were looking like one of the best teams in the AFC early on in the year. However, after disrespecting the Terrible Towel in a win over the Steelers, they would go 3-6 the rest of the season and miss the playoffs. The Browns disrespected the Towel earlier this season and got their asses handed to them in the Wild Card round by the Houston Texans. And now, of course, the Bills fall.
Interestingly enough, another video has surfaced showing a group of Ravens fans stomping on the Terrible Towel during their week 18 loss to the Steelers. Will they be next to have their hearts ripped out of their chest at the hands of Myron Cope?
History lesson: I didn’t know this until today, but in 1996, the late Myron Cope gave the rights of the Terrible Towel to Allegheny Valley School in the suburbs near Pittsburgh. This place provides care and assistance for people with disabilities. Proceeds from Terrible Towel purchases go directly to this non-profit organization.
All in all, if you’re a fan of another team, and you really don’t like the Pittsburgh Steelers, that’s alright. We don’t like yo ass either. But, leave the damn Towel alone. Trust me, your team will thank you for it.
