The 2024 Season Has Begun

Last night, the Kansas City Chiefs beat the 49ers in the Super Bowl 25-22 on a walk-off touchdown reception by Mecole Hardman in overtime.

This was supposed to be the year that the Chiefs were weakened; beatable. We were supposed to wake up this morning feeling confident that we could put the “dynasty” talks on hold for a little while longer. But, here we are. Patrick Mahomes showed us, once again, that he is amongst the greatest to ever play this game, and we could very well be referring to him as the G.O.A.T. when he is finished. That Andy Reid-Patrick Mahomes tandem isn’t going anywhere. Mahomes said it best after the game: “Just know the Chiefs are never underdogs. Just know that.”

Sadly, he’s right.

These are dark days for fans of other AFC teams, and, speaking from my own experience as a 28-year-old Steelers fan, these are the darkest days of my fandom so far. We dealt with the Tom Brady era, and he kicked our asses almost every time we played him. However, we had one of the best to ever play the quarterback position in Ben Roethlisberger, which meant every single year we had a chance; and we capitalized on a few of those chances.

Today, there’s uncertainty for the Steelers at the QB spot, and Mike Tomlin’s aura shines less and less bright with each passing year. Alas, this team has my unwavering support - and, mark my words: we WILL figure this out. Onto the 2024 season.

I know the schedule isn’t out yet, but what games are yinz eyeballing for this next year? I’m thinking vs. Cowboys in Pittsburgh, for starters. I want to meet some of you guys out there! Let me know on the socials!
